Close Carl A., or Charles A. Born in Bavaria, Germany, a carpenter by trade. Lived in Saginaw at enlistment. Enlisted in company K, Jan. 4, 1864, at Hampden, for 3 years, age 24. He married Henrietta Strassburg on June 22, 1859 by Conrad Volz, a Luthern minister. They had one child, born in 1862 who died in 1865. His enlistment papers show him to have brown hair and eyes and a fair complexion. He was 5 feet 8 inches tall. Mustered Jan. 5, 1864. Killed in action before Petersburg, VA, June 16, 1864.
